Looking for greener pastures

Choose Nursing as your career

“I once heard an instructor say that a doctor treats a disease that a person happens to have, but a nurse treats a patient who just happens to have a disease”

Jenn, class of 2000, nursing, Golden West College

Nursing, a profession that recalls the name of Florence Nightingale is indeed one of the noblest humanitarian professions in the world. It is the art of caring for sick people and bringing back joy in their lives with the science of health care.  It recognizes and nurtures the human and moral values of caring and promotes the individual welfare and rights.

It is a vital component of any form of medical care.  The largest group of workers in the health sector are those in the nursing occupations, as nurses and nursing assistants. In a hospital from the general ward to the operating theater, nursing forms an integral part.

Started in 2006, AMOGHA has now entered the 15th – Fifteenth batch in offering the NURSING courses in 2020-21.  Approved by the Indian Nursing Council and UGC New Delhi; The UP State Medical Faculty, Lucknow and affiliated to Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut it offers the following courses:

The entry of the corporate sector in medical and health services has enhanced medical opportunities for nurses in India. The numbers of qualified professionals of nursing available are very less as against the number of job openings in the hospitals and nursing homes. We at AMOGHA recognized the escalating need for nurses, in India, in the mounting complexities of new ailments and diseases for health promotion, maintenance, and cost effective coordinated care. Therefore, we provided extensive education and training at lowest possible cost to the financially weaker section of the society to become nursing professionals. 150 such young minds were moulded and trained to function with independence in: clinical decision-making; case management; direct patient care; guiding patients through the maze of health care resources; and educating patients on treatment regimens and adoption of healthy life styles. They were trained to deal with patients in a multi specialty hospital, at a community health centre, at a mental hospital and a government hospital.

They were trained to

  • to have greater appreciation for professionalism, human values and welfare
  • creating and sustaining a century of life
  • to work extensively for the creation of new knowledge
  • to provide leadership to ensure sufficient numbers of highly qualified professional nurses
  • to acquire knowledge and skills and develop as world class professionals and individuals, in today’s challenging world

A strategic plan is required to produce a workforce sufficient in size, quality, and diversity to meet the health promotion, disease prevention and health maintenance needs of a complex and constantly changing society. And it is this effort of AMOGHA to execute this strategic plan to plot a path and execute activities for the pro-active advancement of nursing education, research, and practice to meet evolving needs of society.

Nursing as a rewarding professional career

A nursing career can offer you the unprecedented opportunity to make a significant impact in your community while enjoying one of the most financially rewarding job markets in decades. Faced with rapidly expanding numbers of baby boomers that require advanced medical care, nearly every hospital, health care system, and assisted living facility require competent nurses and aides.

Nurses are a critical part of healthcare and make up the largest section of the health profession. The demand for qualified and skilled nurses continues to grow with the expansion of healthcare facilities in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, orphanages, old age homes and maternity homes. With the expansion of educational and training institutions in nursing, the demand for Nursing teachers is also increasing.

The Nursing degree / diploma will provide you with basic technical nursing skills. You will be prepared for entry-level positions in giving bedside care, most often in hospital settings and extended or acute care facilities. You will be prepared to work directly with patients suffering from common health problems and help others achieve an optimal level of wellness

The entry of the corporate sector in medical and health services has enhanced medical opportunities for nurses in India. The number of qualified professionals of Nursing available are very less as against the number of job openings in the hospitals and nursing homes.

According to the World Health Statistics Report (WHO, 2013), there are approximately 29 million nurses and midwives in the world, with 3.9 million of those individuals in the United States. Estimates of upwards of one million additional nurses will be needed by 2020 (WHO, 2013). WHO offers opportunities for graduate students and outstanding nurse or midwife leaders to be involved in global health.

Employment of registered nurses is projected to grow 15 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. The Registered Nurses (RNs) workforce is expected to grow from 2.9 million in 2016 to 3.4 million in 2026, an increase of 438,100 or 15% in the U.S.

According to The American Nurses Association (ANA) (2018), there will be more registered nurse jobs available through 2022 than any other profession in the United States. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (2018) projects 1.1 million additional nurses are needed to avoid a further shortage. Employment opportunities for nurses are projected to grow at a faster rate (15%) than all other occupations from 2016 through 2026 (US Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2018).

And above all you will also be prepared to continue your education and work toward a bachelors / masters degree in nursing. A student qualifying GNM or B.Sc. Nursing can pursue further studies in this field and choose the profession of teaching in the colleges of Nursing, where again there is a dearth of qualified nursing lecturers and professors. With the expansion of educational and training institutions in nursing, the demand for Nursing teachers is also increasing. And a big gap between the demand and availability of the qualified professors presents an opportunity to get very high salaries and perks in this field.
